The wire fraud email of 2026 is not the wire fraud email of 2019. It is written in your closer's voice. It quotes your file number. It arrives on a Thursday afternoon. It is, in every visible respect, correct.
The two-minute habit
- Never call the number in the email.
- Call the number on the business card, the settlement statement, or the firm's public website.
- Verify the routing and account number verbally. Say the digits out loud.
- Do this again if anything about the instructions changes — even punctuation.
"If the wire is real, a two-minute phone call costs you two minutes. If it isn't, it costs you the down payment on your house."
That's the trade. Take it every time.
